Do a street plant count

What’s growing on your walk to the station? Sprouting between the cracks in the pavement or the crannies in your home’s walls? The persistent little plants you’ll see may seem sparse, but they’re brilliant for wildlife. Try counting just how many there are on your way to work, school or the shops one day this week.

Set yourself a street plant challenge

Our members have set all kinds of challenges to appreciate street plants through the seasons. Here are a few ideas:

  1. See how long it takes to spot five different flowering street plants
  2. Encourage the kids to do a street plant count on their way home from school
  3. Keep a seasonal record of the street plants within five, 10 or 50 metres of your front door
  4. Use the street plant spotter sheet to create a scavenger hunt

Share your finds with us on social media. We’d love to know what you’ve spotted.
